Your Colour Consultation will include discussion of your hair history, your budget, retail considerations and maintenance services to plan for, and will allow for personalization to achieve your goal. Even before that, our front desk team will work to pair you with a stylist in an experience level you are comfortable with that specializes in your hair goals. We want you to be happy with your hair, and will work with you to elevate your experience at The Headroom from day one!

Your Hair Questions Answered

Your hair history, goal photo, and timeline will be different than the person sitting next to you, and each of those will affect your hair budget. Here are a few ways we determine your colour price:

  1. Choose your Hair Stylist: Our salon is level-based, with hair stylists from fresh out of hair school (level 1) all the way up to master stylists with Redken Color Certification (currently level 7, but we’re always growing). With each level jump, colour investment grows, and reservation time decreases. For example, a root touch-up can take 1.5 hours longer with a new stylist than an experienced stylist but will be a lower price.
  2. Determine your colour needs: At The Headroom, we bill you for only the colour you use. Short, fine hair will be priced dramatically less than long, thick hair, because we weigh out your colour and bill accordingly, by the ounce. For an accurate quote, book your complimentary colour consultation today!
  3. Share your hair history: If you have been box-dyeing your hair for years and are looking to pull that colour out, it may take 3+ reservations to accomplish your hair goals. Our team will work with you to ensure you are aware of the process, the expectations, and the budget for each appointment along the way.
  4. Be honest about your budget: We understand that you may want a master stylist but are working with a lower budget. We can accommodate! Book your colour consultation with your master stylist, and let them know what you want them to work within. They will recommend a junior stylist to work with for maintenance appointments, suggest options of smaller services working toward your goals at a slower pace, or provide insights to help. We can only do this when you’re honest with us. We’re here to help!

Yay! Our goal, always, is to find your perfect stylist match so you can support them by returning, referring your friends, purchasing your hair care products from them, and getting the most out of your hair appointments! Your stylist would absolutely LOVE a Google or Yelp review to boost their exposure. Thank you for asking!

If you are about to hit post on a less than 5-star review drop us a line first. We would love to adjust your hair for you, and build our relationship back up!

Hair is a process. From black to white there is always an awkward orange phase, that all of us (even Kim Kardashian) have to get through. Your hair will lift at a different rate, and may lift through the orange in one visit, two, or more. The only way to really know, is to lift it! Your hair history (eg box colour), ethnicity, hair texture etc will factor in, but our stylists are experienced and can help manage your expectations at your consult. We can do test pieces, and will always let you know what your next reservation is before you leave so you know what’s next.

HOT TIP: At home, professional products and protein treatments can hide brassiness and build up hair strength to minimize time between stages. Ask your stylist what treatment is best for your hair, and how you can support your blonding process best from home.

We use only professional hair care products and tools on you when you’re at the salon. We have a limitless supply of the tools we need to do amazing work, and would love to educate you so you have the knowledge to do the same at home!

Our list of must have hair care products includes:

  • Professional Shampoo + Conditioner
  • Treatments based on your needs: Protein / Moisture / Leave In Conditioner
  • Heat Protection
    Professional Hair Tools
  • Quality Hair Care Products [silk pillowcases/bonnets, soft scrunchies, heatless curlers etc)

Book an education session with your stylist (Blowout + Treatment) and they will ensure you are set up for success… even if you live in Fort Nelson and are only here twice a year!

This question gets asked all the time, and is so subjective. The best way to answer it is to look back at photos of you to see what you liked the most, account for your lifestyle and budget [aka are you able to come in every month for touch ups, or do you prefer a full color change twice per year].

To get the best possible hair color for your complexion, lifestyle and budget, we recommend booking in for a FREE consultation with your preferred stylist. They will go through your inspiration photos, your ideas and your concerns, and you’ll leave knowing you’re in great hands for your haircut!

We get it. You’ve been a blonde forever, you keep thinking of changing it up, but you forget to tell your stylist ahead of time and they assume you’re in for your roots… and you keep leaving with blonde! Whether you’re thinking of growing your hair out, testing out a fashion colour, colouring your hair for the first time, or simply wanting to part your hair differently, we are your biggest supporters in change!

When you’re booking your appointment online there is a spot to add notes for your stylist. If you’re calling or texting us, or DM’ing your stylist on their social media, share your thoughts! Send inspo pics, talk about your goals, or simply tell them you’re thinking of something new. We will book extra time to chat, and make sure you know all the ins and outs before you commit.

To risk oversimplifying this: tell your stylist. If you want hair care on a budget, tell us. We will recommend a service schedule to suit your needs [eg a tone with an apprentice between blondings to extend your colour, seeing an apprentice for your root touch ups between full colours, or ‘micro-trims’ between haircuts to avoid split ends while maintaining your length]. We will suggest specific products to help you achieve your goals at home. We may suggest a lower level hair stylist that specializes in your hair style to decrease the service price. We may suggest focusing on your part instead of highlighting your whole head.

Bottom line: there are ALWAYS ways we can adjust your appointment to keep luxury in your budget!
