A curly haircut is very different from a typical cut, and that starts from the time you sit down.
Our curly hair specialists will determine your curl type, your hair type, and hear your hair history. They will develop a plan with you to ensure your curly hair is taken care of not only in the salon, but also at home. Most people with curly hair go longer between haircuts, and that means you have a bigger responsibility to moisturize properly and make sure your hair has the protein it needs. How should I wear my hair to my curly reservations?
Please arrive to your curly reservation wearing your hair as you typically would, avoiding pins, ties or clips. We want to see your curls in their natural state! Your stylist wants to take your preferences into account when designing the perfect curly cut for you. Hair products are acceptable – if in doubt, please ask!
How much will my Curly Cut cost?
Our curly hair specialists are able to quote your cut, colour, and maintenance recommendations before working with your hair. If you’d like a custom quote, please book a complimentary curl consultation [link]! Your cut price will range, starting at $52 and depending on your hair thickness and length. Curly haircuts are typically 15 minutes longer than straight cuts, and are best for people that wear their hair curly 70% of the time or more.
HOT TIP: To get the most out of your reservation, please bring in photos or a list of retail products you currently have at home. We want to make sure your curly hair is getting what it needs, whether you buy your professional hair care from The Headroom or elsewhere!
Why should I book with a specialist? Can’t every stylist cut curly hair?

Why can’t I book my perm online?
First things first – we always start our perm process with a consultation. In fact, perms are one of the only services that we don’t allow online bookings for – you must call or text the salon [link] to reserve space. Why? Because we love your hair! Perms are highly concentrated chemical services, and (similar to lightener), we need to make sure your hair is healthy enough to withstand the process before booking.
A perm consultation is bookable online [link to Meevo], completely free, and incredibly valuable. You’ll learn what type of perm best suites your hair type (and face shape), you’ll learn about the process, and the potential outcomes for you, what is required for maintenance, and you’ll book your perm service before leaving feeling confident.
What if I’m not a perm candidate?
In order to be a perm candidate your hair must 1) be able to wrap around the perm rod 2.5 times (aka be long enough) and 2) be healthy enough to withstand the service. If your hair has been lightened previously, it’s best to discuss a plan with your stylist on how to rebuild your hair’s protein (we have treatments for that!) and health first. We will help you through the process, and make sure to keep your hair health first, while helping you to achieve your hair goals!
This is not my first perm. How often do I need to come in?
We can’t stress enough – having a stylist that knows your hair, and pre-booking your reservations are the absolute best ways to ensure your hair stays healthy, and looks great, throughout your life. We will pre-book your curly cut between 2-4 months after your perm, and your next perm 2-4 months after that. You’ll always know what your next curly hair appointment is, and you’ll have quotes for every step of the way. No surprises here!
How often do I need to get my curly hair cut?
While every person’s hair is different, we can say that typically curly haired clients come in less for haircuts on average. Our basic rebooking schedule is every 2-3 months for a curly client, though some go longer than that. If you are using moisture treatments at home, and we’re staying on top of split ends with you, your curly cut may last up to 4 months!
HOT TIP: At home, professional products and moisture treatments can extend the time you have between trims. Ask your stylist what treatment is best for your hair, and how you can support your curls staying healthy at home.
Why does my hair always look so much better when I’m at the salon?
We use only professional hair care products and tools on you when you’re at the salon. We have a limitless supply of the tools we need to do amazing work, and would love to educate you so you have the knowledge to do the same at home!
Our list of must have hair care products includes:
- Professional Shampoo + Conditioner
- Treatments based on your needs: Protein / Moisture / Leave In Conditioner
- Heat Protection
- Professional Hair Tools
- Quality Hair Care Products [silk pillowcases/bonnets, soft scrunchies, heatless curlers etc)
Book an education session with your stylist (Blowout + Treatment) and they will ensure you are set up for success… even if you live in Fort Nelson and are only here twice a year!
How do I tell my hairdresser I want to try something different?
Have you been straightening your hair for years, and are now interested in showing them some love?! Not sure if you’re going to love your curls if you leave them to ‘go wild’?
When you’re booking your appointment online there is a spot to add notes for your stylist. If you’re calling or texting us, or DM’ing your stylist on their social media, share your thoughts! Send inspo pics, talk about your goals, or simply tell them you’re thinking of something new. We will book extra time to chat, and make sure you know all the ins and outs before you commit.
How can I spend less money on my hair appointments, but still love my hair?
To risk oversimplifying this: tell your stylist. If you want hair care on a budget, tell us. We will recommend a service schedule to suit your needs [eg a tone with an apprentice between blondings to extend your colour, or ‘micro-trims’ between haircuts to avoid split ends while maintaining your length]. We will suggest specific products to help you achieve your goals at home. We may suggest a lower level hair stylist that specializes in your hair style to decrease the service price. We may suggest focusing on your part instead of highlighting your whole head.
Bottom line: there are ALWAYS ways we can adjust your appointment to keep luxury in your budget!
I HATE my haircut - what do I do?!
We want you to love your look! If you are new to the salon we ask you to call us right away, because your hairdresser wants you to be happy, and would love to have the opportunity to make things right.
Sometimes it’s just not the right fit [style, personality, expertise, etc] and again, we want to help you!
Contact us and a manager will respond within 24 hours to hear you, provide some solutions, and strive to understand what will work best for you.
